A reader agrees with Matt’s opinion that James Horner’s score to the film Braveheart is deeply moving, and asks whether Matt has also heard Horner’s score to the 1997 blockbuster, Titanic.
Matt responds:
I’ll have to get that soundtrack!
I must admit, I’ve only seen parts of the movie on television. I’m probably the only person in the universe who hasn’t actually watched the entire movie.
Be that as it may, I think at the time it was coming out, and maybe to this day, I shy away from tragedies quite often, because in my first life as a funeral director, that’s what I was met with every day.
With Braveheart, I knew he died at the end, but I knew he died with such victory and class that it would inspire all.
With Titanic, I probably subconsciously shied away from it because I didn’t want to see the sheer horror of impending death and all the consequences it had.
But I will get the music and listen to it and probably, knowing how I react to things, I’ll forget the story and make up whatever story the music tells me.
Thanks for the recommendation,
Matt
