Hello, bloggers!
Rose and I had a wonderful Christmas with our family and are looking forward to the coming year!
Someone asked me whether I feel hope for the future, given recent events such as the attempted blowing-up of the airliner on Christmas Day.
I believe that the people who use terror as a weapon are there to destroy our feeling that might is not right, but that peace, tolerance, understanding, hope, and love will prevail.
I will go to my grave believing that peace is elusive but attainable. Peace is an individual place where people can gather under their own umbrella and find peace where it is.
I doubt peace will ever be everywhere all the time, at least not as long as we are material, but once the whole integration of the spiritual and the material comes forward, we will then be as we are supposed to be: different, questioning, arguing, tolerant, understanding people.
How we get there is through hope. As long as we have hope, we continue down the path.
I say that as a man who in some Latin American countries is known in certain corners as “Señor Loco,” which is what you call a crazy man who thinks he can bring peace to the world by painting an umbrella or a piece of cloth. When I’m joined by billions of other “Loco’s,” not only will the peaceful inherit the earth, but possibly the crazies, too!
So yes, I am hopeful. I believe 2010 will be better than 2009. Will irresponsible actions by a minority of people who have a completely different perspective of the world still take place? I believe so. Will that make me lose hope? No. If it does, then they have succeeded and I have failed.
If enough of us in our species keep calling, searching, and looking for a new and more peaceful way to treat each other, then maybe the world at large will finally pay attention.
I’m very optimistic that imaginative, risk-taking people such as you who read and comment on this blog, have joined our crowd—crawling, running, swimming, flying, galloping, lumbering, stumbling towards peace.
Onward and upward in the new year,
Matt Lamb
